Types of Visas
There are two main types of visas for Vietnam, eVisa and Visa on Arrival VOA.
The evisa is a single entry visa that is valid for 30 days since you arrive in Vietnam. It allows you to enter the country by any of its eight international airports, the fourteen land crossings and their seven seaports.
The VOA type has two types of entries, single entry and multiple entries. This type of visa can only be used in five of the Vietnam airports that have the visa on arrival option since the authorities need to validate your data before actually allowing you the enter the country and will be granted at that point. The single-entry one will grant you entry into Vietnam one time only, and there is VOA single entry valid for 30 days and for 90 days, you will need to choose the one who applies better to your travel plans. This option also allows you more time to stay than the single entry Vietnam evisa.
The multiple-entry VOA on the other hand gives unlimited entries as long as the visa is still valid. It has two options for a period of valid time, 30 days and 90 days. Once you get the multiple entries visa at any of the valid airports, you will be able to re-enter Vietnam by any port.
What is Vietnam eVisa Cost?
The price of the visa varies depending on the type and the validity. The single entry Vietnam eVisa cost 25 USD and the payment is made at the moment of the application. The Visa on Arrival ones needs to be paid at the moment of entry at any of the 5 airports that have the VOA option, the cost for this visa type is 25 USD for the single entry one, regardless of the validity if it is for 30 days or for 90 days, and 50 USD for the multiple entries for any of the valid period of time.
What are Vietnam Visa requirements?
There are main Vietnam visa requirements that apply for both of the visa types and then a few more for the Visa on arrival.
The general requirements are a passport photo, a passport valid for 6 months after arriving into the country, the address of the hotel or place where you will be staying and the intended point of entry and exit for the single entry ones. Additional to this, for the VOA will be needed the letter of approval and the payment of the visa stamping fee; these requirements are for arriving at the airport of entry.
What is a Vietnam Single Entry Visa?
A single entry visa will allow you to enter Vietnam one time, that is why it is called a single entry visa. It can only be used once and after that, you cannot try to enter Vietnam again with that same visa, even though the time you stayed in the country was the full validity of the granted visa. Vietnam allows you to apply for an extension of your visa if the validity of time expires and you need to stay in the country, you will need to provide proof of where you are staying and why. This extension works as applying for a new visa but once you are already in the country. It is fully recommended that if you think that your visit will be more than 30 days or are unsure of the probable length of stay, apply for the Visa on arrival for 90 days and that way you will be more sure that your visa will not expire while you are in Vietnam.
Time of Vietnam Visa process
As with every country’s visa, each different one has a different time of the process and this one is no exception. The single entry eVisa takes 3 business days to process while the single entry visa on arrival takes approximately 8 hours while the multiple-entry one can take up to 7 business days.
How to apply for a Vietnam visa online
For the single entry Vietnam visa application you will need to go to the webpage to fill out the form of application and upload the documents needed like the biodata page of the passport and the photo, after all the information is completely filled you will proceed to the payment of the visa fee which is 25 USD. Keep the confirmation page and the number shown to check the status of your visa application.
To apply for the Vietnam visa online for on-arrival, the application process is a little different and mail needs to be sent to the authorities to request a VOA approval letter. In the mail, all the applicant’s information needs to be included such as complete name, birthdate, applicant’s occupation, nationality, passport number, the intended port of arrival and the visa type. All the information that is shown on the passport biodata page needs to be included and the scan of the passport too.
How to check Vietnam visa status
Once the application of the single entry evisa is completed, you will need to wait three business days to check if it has been approved on the page where you made the application, for this part the confirmation number that was given at the moment of application will be needed to check the Vietnam evisa status. Once the approval is showed you will need to download the PDF file and keep it on hand with your passport once you arrive in Vietnam.
If the visa on arrival request was approved, a VOA approval letter will be sent and this one needs to be shown at the airport after paying the visa stamp fee.
